OCU Metropolitan tells French politicians about ROC's role in Putin’s aggression
This was reported by the OCU's press service.
The meeting was attended by Bishop Raphael of Makariv, the Vicar of the Kyiv Diocese; Archpriest Konstantin Moskaliuk, the Vice Rector for Educational Processes and Innovation at the Kyiv Orthodox Theological Academy; French journalists; and members of the delegation’s entourage.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the ongoing struggle of the Ukrainian people for freedom and their defense against a full-scale Russian attack. They also addressed the religious situation, particularly the spiritual dimension of this war, and the significant role of the Russian Orthodox Church as an integral part of Putin’s regime. This includes its leader, Kirill Gundyaev, who propagates and supports the aggressive war through the destructive ideology of the “Russian World.”
In this context, Metropolitan Yevstratiy pointed out that this new doctrine not only contradicts the Gospel but also bears characteristics reminiscent of Nazi ideology. He highlighted how the violent Russian attack on Ukraine is framed as a “holy war,” suggesting that those who fall in battle are promised immediate access to paradise.
He emphasized that the response to such pseudo-Christian and destructive actions must be consolidated and decisive. This includes imposing strict international sanctions on all individuals involved.
The conversation also covered the role of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine during these difficult times, focusing on spiritual support for the people, the social and humanitarian work of clergy and volunteers, chaplaincy services, and the efforts of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Metropolitan Yevstratiy thanked the distinguished guests for their visit and support for Ukraine. He also spoke to them about prominent figures in the history of Orthodoxy in Ukraine.
