OCU Primate meets with the Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine
This was reported by the OCU website.
At the beginning of the meeting, the parties discussed the proper honoring of the fallen Ukrainian soldiers who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of their Homeland. They also spoke about the “Wall of Memory” memorial located on the walls of St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery.
“This is a place of memory and prayer. Here, every image represents a human life, pain, and hope for the future of our state, for which they sacrificed the most precious of gifts - their lives,” said Metropolitan Epifaniy.
The Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine thanked Canada for its consistent support of our country in countering full-scale Russian aggression.
“We continue to fight, and the best sons and daughters of Ukraine are dying for our right to freedom. Therefore, Canada's assistance in these trying times is an important manifestation of solidarity and friendship,” the hierarch emphasized.
In addition, the parties discussed the activities of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, the process of communities joining the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the threats posed by Russia's destructive activities in the religious sphere, the importance of moral and spiritual values that should prevail over material ones, the development of chaplaincy in the army, assistance to Ukrainian internally displaced persons in Canada, and the importance of preserving Ukrainian identity in the diaspora.
The head of the OCU emphasized that the Kremlin spares no effort and resources on the 'church direction' as it is of strategic importance to the Putin regime.
“Of course, Russia has no genuine desire for peace. The latest horrific shelling, which once again resulted in the deaths of children, clearly demonstrates this. Therefore, a truly effective way for the international community to support Ukraine is to continuously strengthen our country and put pressure on the aggressor. This is the way to help us establish a just and lasting peace,” Metropolitan Epifaniy concluded.
