Odesa Authority Unanimously Supports Construction of UOC-MP Cathedral, while UGCC Still Waiting for Approval
Metropolitan of Agafangel of Odesa an Izmail of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate, appealed to the executive committee of the Odesa City Council with a request for permission to build a church in the center of the city. The request was fulfilled.
The new church of St. Luke will be built on the territory of the city hospital no. 3.
According to the Odesa information agency Reporter, before the discussion of the request, the Odesa Mayor Eduard Gurwits asked the members of the committee: “Does someone want to anger God and stand in the way of the construction?” There were no objections.
In the meanwhile, the situation regarding the allocation of a land plot to build the first real church of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Odesa is completely different.
As RISU reported earlier, Greek Catholics need to receive approval to build a church in Odesa at public hearings – a precondition that was introduced by city officials.
Public hearings on building a UGCC church in Odesa began in August.
