On August 1 Muslim Month of Ramadan Begins
According to the association "Alraid" and the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Ukraine “Ummah,” Muslims look forward to the beginning of Ramadan on August 1.
Ramadan is the month when God gave to Prophet Mohammed the revelation of the Quran and Muslims are to fast during this month: “Oh, those who have believed, You are supposed to fast as well as those before you were supposed to fast in order for you to fear God!” (Quran 2:183).
Fasting for Muslims is a time of spiritual purification, coming closer to God and meditation on the life lived. The believers abstain from food, drink and marital sexual relations from dawn to sunset. However, the Creator through his Prophet warns the people: “If a man does not stop to lie and act unjustly, God does not need his abstinence from food and drink.” As they continue their everyday activity, the believers serve the Almighty with special care, concentrating on prayer and spiritual perfection.
During Ramadan, in addition to the obligatory prayer five times a day, Muslims perform each night an individual or collective prayers.
