Only 13 Kyiv City Council deputies support UOC-MP monopoly over burials in Kyiv
The Kyiv City Council did not adopt a draft resolution, prepared by representatives of the Party of Regions, on allocating the St. Illinska parish of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate spaces in cemeteries to conduct consultations concerning burial rites. UNIAN reports that only 13 out of 95 registered deputies supported the resolution.
The head of the faction of the Party of Regions Oleksii Omelchenko noted that representatives of the faction are not opposed to having such spaces be allocated to priests of other denominations. He did not, however, explain why only the clergy of the Moscow Patriarchate was mentioned in the resolution.
According to Omelchenko, the draft resolution was introduced because the party has received more than 3 thousand appeals from Kyivans to provide consultations for funeral services.
