Over 60% of Ukrainians support the transition to the new church calendar
This is evidenced by a survey conducted by the sociological group "Rating", according to Ukrinform.
Meanwhile, 18% of respondents are against the idea, and 17% say they are indifferent to it.
The survey results show that the highest number of supporters for the transition to a new church calendar are among residents of the western regions (78%) and particularly among Greek Catholics (92%). Over 60% of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) believers also support this initiative.
Support for the transition is slightly lower among residents of the eastern and southern regions, but still, about half of them are in favor. Although among Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) believers, there is a larger percentage opposing this initiative (35%), more than 40% of them still support the transition. Younger people and non-believers, in general, are less concerned about this issue.
Sociologists note that support for the transition to a new church calendar is higher than the support for moving Christmas to December last year. In December, the decision to move Christmas to December 25 was supported by 44% and not supported by 31%, whereas now, the transition to a new calendar is supported by 63% and not supported by 18%.
The survey was conducted on June 1-2 through computer-assisted telephone interviews. It involved 1,000 respondents aged 18 and above from all regions of Ukraine, except for the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas, as well as areas with no Ukrainian mobile network coverage at the time of the survey.
The sample is representative in terms of age, gender, and settlement type. The representativeness error of the study is no more than 3.1%, with a confidence level of 95%.
