Parliamentary committee recommends termination of the lease agreement with UOC-MP for Pochayiv Lavra

he stated that "At today's meeting of the Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, it was recommended to adopt as a basis and as a whole (with the Committee's amendments) a draft resolution to verify compliance by the Pochayiv Holy Dormition Lavra with the terms of agreements on the free use of religious buildings and other property that is state property."

According to the head of the committee, the agreement signed by the state with the UOC-MP for the Pochayiv Lavra in the 2000s is highly unbalanced and unfavorable for the state. She added that the Lavra had become an "island" where ministerial inspections and public control are not allowed.

The Verkhovna Rada committee strongly believes that the Pochayiv Lavra should be freed from the control of the UOC-MP by terminating the contract of gratuitous use and conducting an appropriate investigation. As per reports, the Parliament is proposing to expel the UOC-MP from the Pochayiv Lavra. Over 30 MPs have proposed that the Verkhovna Rada address the Cabinet of Ministers with a proposal to terminate the lease agreement with the UOC-MP for the buildings of the Pochayiv Assumption Lavra.
