Ukraine is living in the mode of electricity austerity. Our power engineers told me about the terrible events taking place at Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. The Russian invader is completely unaware of, or perhaps does not want to realise, the danger and threat that actions aimed at violating energy security in the region may bring. Dreams of demilitarization of the ZNPP zone remained only dreams. This power plant is shelled daily by the invaders themselves. We anticipate that even providing the necessary cooling of the reactors is a big question. This was stated by Patriarch Sviatoslav of the UGCC in his daily military address on the 240th day of Russia's war against Ukraine.

The Primate of the UGCC noted that the enemy is trying to attack Ukrainian positions, particularly in the Donbas, near Bakhmut, Avdiivka. Also yesterday, the president of Ukraine said that the Russian invaders mined the Kakhovska hydroelectric power station, this large dam, the explosion of which will mean a great disaster for cities and villages in the south of our homeland. But, in particular, there is a great danger for the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is cooled by water from the Kakhovsky reservoir. Also, any opportunities and attempts to supply water to Crimea will also be completely destroyed.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav called on the world community to help Ukraine, which is daily the target of Russia's tireless, terrible terrorist attacks on its energy infrastructure.

"Today, being an energy engineer in Ukraine is life-threatening. Many specialists in this industry, who today eliminate the consequences of Russian rocket attacks, died a heroic and courageous death at the place of their work. Today we are very grateful to the Ukrainian power engineers for their dedicated work. We are grateful that they are ready to ensure the life of our motherland, even at the cost of their own lives. May the Lord God bless them, support them, and the world should hear the voice of our brave specialists, courageous people who carry out their professional, civil and Christian vocation under rockets, under shelling," the head of the UGCC said.
