Patriarch Sviatoslav Points to Uncontrolled Developments in Ukraine
According to Patriarch Sviatoslav, today, in Ukraine, we are going through a very complex period in the history of our state and the church, in particular its presence in the state. Certain developments are taking place which appear to be uncontrolled, and we do not know what to expect tomorrow. The head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church expressed this opinion at a meeting with representatives of the clergy and the charitable organization Church in Need, held as part of his visit to Germany, reported the Information Department of the UGCC.
According to the patriarch, at this period of uncertainty, “people do not trust anyone but trust the church.”
“It is very interesting that people today have much more trust in the head of the church than in the head of the state.” This means that our church plays a tremendous role in the life of the Ukrainian nation. First of all, in the development of the civil society in our state. Thanks to the fact that we are economically independent of the state, we can enjoy the freedom to speak the truth,” he stressed.
The hierarch also thanked the Church in Need for its support which, since the time of its foundation, has provided for many churches in need, particularly the UGCC, and expressed hope that it will continue to provide it.
