Pope Francis calls Trump’s plans of mass deportation of immigrants ‘a disgrace’

He said this during a speech on the popular Italian talk show Che Tempo Che Fa, LB.ua reports citing AP.
“If true, this will be a disgrace...This is not the way to solve things. That’s not how things are resolved,” the Pope said.
Trump, who will be inaugurated today, January 20, made mass deportations the signature issue of his campaign and promised to issue a number of first-day orders to change immigration policy.
Many U.S. bishops have strongly opposed this plan, with the new Archbishop of Washington, D.C., Cardinal Robert McElroy, calling such policies “incompatible with Catholic doctrine.”
Pope Francis, who grew up in Argentina in a family of Italian immigrants, has long prioritized the plight of migrants and called on governments to welcome, protect and integrate them within their means. He said that the dignity and rights of migrants outweigh any national security concerns.
Earlier, in 2016, during Trump's first presidential campaign, Pope Francis called him “not Christian” in response to Trump's idea to build a wall along the US-Mexico border.
President-elect Donald Trump is preparing to sign more than 100 executive orders on border security, deportations, and a number of other priority areas immediately after his inauguration.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the new Trump administration is planning a large-scale immigration raid in Chicago next week, the first step in Trump's promised campaign of mass deportations.
Back in November, immediately after winning the election, Trump appointed a person to his team responsible for the mass deportation program.
