Poroshenko to opponents: if you factor out Church, Ukrainian language and army, then factor out Ukraine too
On April 8, in a broadcast of ICTV channel, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that Ukrainians are divided by the election campaign in which artificial images are created to make people clash.
“On should not believe stereotypes that are imposed on us from abroad. We are divided by the electoral campaign creating artificial images that pitches people against each other. And this is definitely not for the benefit of Ukrainians. The election will end on April 21. Everything will be fine. We will not let anyone split the country,” said Poroshenko. According to him, the main thing is to “save Ukraine”.
“And when they say that the language divides, and we have to factor out the language... My friends, this is definitely not true. The main thing is not to impose the language, not force anyone,” said the President.
He added that “Russian-speaking citizens -- struggling with weapons in their hands -- are no worse than Ukrainian-speaking, and they love Ukraine no less.”
Poroshenko stressed that nobody would encroach on the right of citizens to communicate in Russian.
“If we are talking about the army, and my opponent says that the army is splitting the country and we have to factor out the army – I will object here, because the army unites the country ... When you say that the Church should be factored out. What are you talking about? On the contrary, the Church must unite ... And if you already have the church and language, and the army "out of brackets", then take Ukraine out of the "brackets" as they propose: my opponents, "the Head of State said.
