President Viktor Yanukovych on August 1 greeted the head of the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Ukraine on the occasion of his 55th birthday. The president wished Mufti Sheikh Akhmed Tamim good health.
“I wish you good health, joy and success in Your service for the good and strengthening of interdenominational peace in Ukraine,” reads the address published by the presidential press service.
Mufti Akhmed Tamim was born in Lebanon in 1956 and came to Ukraine in 1976 where he studied at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
On the mufti’s initiative, in 1992, the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Ukraine was established. It spreads knowledge of Islam, strengthens connections with Muslim societies of various nationalities and opposes extremist ideological trends.
