Presidents of Ukraine and Poland Participate in Opening of Memorial to Victims of Totalitarianism in National Historical-Memorial Complex “Bykivnia graves”

The presidents of Ukraine and Poland participated in the opening of a memorial to the victims of totalitarianism in Bykivnia Graves National Historical-Memorial Complex.

Viktor Yanukovych noted that the year before they had laid a cornerstone for the future memorial sign. “Today we are opening this Memorial. It will become another reminder of the tragic history and we can’t forget it,” the president said.

The president of Poland expressed gratitude to the president of Ukraine for efforts made to create the complex. “In Bykivnia we feel the unity of Polish and Ukrainian fate. We are opening and immortalizing the most painful pages of our history,” Bronislaw Komorowski said.

The presidents laid flowers to the Memorial and paid tribute to the deceased with a minute of silence.
