Proceedings Instituted Against Femen Members Protesting from Belfry of Holy Sophia
The active members of the Ukrainian Femen feminist movement may repeat the fate of the members of a punk group Pussy Riot arrested for a “punk prayer service” in the Church of Christ the Saviour in Moscow. The Office of the Public Prosecutor General instituted proceedings against the four Femen members who participated in an action in the bell tower of the Cathedral of the Holy Sophia in Kyiv, reported Portal-credo.ru.
The legal proceedings according to Article “Malicious hooliganism organized in advance by a group of persons” was instituted on April 19, but the lawyer of Femen was informed about it on April 26.
The official response of the movement was: “We d……e from a high belfry on all the priests, cops and other state slops,” reads the press release. The “femenists” also stated that repressive measures against their organization have increased. According to them, the number of their members against whom legal proceedings have been brought has reached 8 persons.
Femen associated it with the coming football championship Euro 2012 events in Ukraine and Poland. According to the girls, the authorities are trying to paralyze their activity to prevent new “half-nude” actions during the championship events.
