An emergency protest against the misinformation by Ukrainian officials from UNESCO management concerning the actual state historical monument preservation in Kyiv was held this morning near the UN Office.

Sophiya-K.gifAn emergency protest against the misinformation by Ukrainian officials from UNESCO management concerning the actual state historical monument preservation in Kyiv was held this morning near the UN Office.

The questionable or explicitly false information that the Ukrainian side has told UNESCO are the following:

– In Kyiv there is a moratorium on construction in the central part of the city;

– Regarding the construction on Klovskyi Descent 7 (which "shadows" the Kyiv Cave Monastery’s bell tower), the State Service on the National Cultural Heritage has passed a resolution;

– Construction in the historic area of Kyiv is under the control of the prime minister and the city state administration (which means it includes the demolition of the Kazanskyi estate, and the constriction of the building on Teatralna Street and the helipad).

To refute the misinformation, the event includes an open-air photo exhibit near the UN Office, which shows the most flagrant cases of destruction of cultural heritage sites in the capital, which are protected by UNESCO.

The goal of the exhibit is to show UNESCO, a specialized agency of the UN, that the actual condition of the preservation does not correspond with the information being spread by the Ukrainian officials, reports the Catholic Observer.
