Reps of UOC-MP Remember Victims of Political Repressions
On the third Sunday of May, the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repressions is marked in Ukraine. On May 20, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) held memorial services for the repose of the innocent people who were executed in 1918-1991.
According to Orthodoxy in Ukraine, in the Church of Sts. Cyril and Methodius of the Ukrainian Theological Academy of the UOC-MP in Uzhhorod, Archimandrite Viktor Bed served a memorial service and prayer for the repose of the victims of the Soviet regime in Ukraine.
Clergymen and students came to the local monument to victims of the totalitarian regime in a religious procession where a memorial service for the victims who perished in the concentration camps of USSR was held.
In Zaporizhzhia, Archbishop Luka (Kovalemko) of Zaporizhzhia and Melitopol of UOC-MP served a memorial service at the monument to political repressions of the 30s and 50s.
Memorial events were also held in Luhansk, Kherson and the Ternopil region.
