On the morning of Sunday, April 13, the Russian military attacked Sumy. The ballistic missile attack left many dead and dozens wounded.

This was reported by the acting mayor Artem Kobzar, according to zaxid.net.

At least two explosions occurred in the city. Both Kobzar and President's Office spokesman Andriy Yermak confirmed that many people were killed in the attack.

According to Volodymyr Artyukh, the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, the Russians launched two ballistic missiles that struck the central part of the city, which was crowded at the time.

“The enemy aimed to inflict the greatest possible damage, hoping that many people would suffer,” Artyukh stated.

As of 11:35 a.m., acting mayor Artem Kobzar reported that more than 20 people had been killed in the Russian strike, and all relevant services were actively working at the scene.

President Volodymyr Zelensky described the Russian ballistic missile strike on Sumy as “terrible” and highlighted that the attack occurred on a Christian holiday.

“This happened on a day when people were going to church: Palm Sunday, the feast of the Lord's Entry into Jerusalem. According to preliminary data, there are dozens of dead and wounded civilians. Only bastards could act this way, taking the lives of ordinary people. My condolences to the families and friends. The rescue operation is ongoing,” the President stated.

As reported previously, on March 24, the Russian military shelled the central part of Sumy, targeting a school. The shelling injured approximately 100 people, including over 20 children.
