The news of the operation undergone by the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Volodymyr. after a leg injury (fracture) provoked great concern among the believers.

The primate’s secretary, Archbishop Oleksandr (Drabynko) of Pereiaslav Khmelnytskyi, told the following to Orthodoxy in Ukraine: “The operation was performed on the day of the injury. It was success, and, according to the doctors, the health and further working capacity of Blessed Metropolitan Volodymyr are not threatened. We hope that it will be so. Usually, after such operations, elderly people can already walk with a cane after 10 days. Due to his Parkingson’s disease, Metropolitan Volodymtr’s rehabilitation may take longer.”

Bishop Oleksandr also noted that “despite the fact that it has been only three days since the operation was performed, Metropolitan Volodymyr signs documents, hears the news and walks inside the ward using crutches.”
