Spokesman of the UOC-KP: date of Unification Council not officially announced yet
Spokesman for the Kyiv Patriarchate, Archbishop Yevstratiy (Zorya), has said that there is no official date for the Unification Council. Therefore, one should not trust numerous sources that persistently spread the rumors that it is about to happen on this or that day. The Archbishop wrote about this on Facebook.
“The date of the Council will be officially announced. As it is not officially announced, there is essentially no date [to report about]. Just as the draft Tomos has been in preparation for a long time - but it will become a document only after its official approval and release,” he wrote. The Hierarch of the UOC-KP explained for what purpose the fake news was distributed.
"Various sources, especially Moscow-run misinformation outlets in Ukraine, persistently spread rumors about the date of the Council with only one purpose: if for some reason, the Council fails to happen on the announced date, as the process of preparation is still ongoing, they will stir up a “treason tsunami”. This technology has been used up to a dozen times already. Do you remember – “The Synod is postponed,” “representatives of Constantinople refused to go to Ukraine”, “There won’t be any Tomos", “the Ukrainian question was postponed”, His Eminence Yevstratiy reminded.
"So you should not sow unreasonable expectations so that a similarly unsubstantiated “betrayal” surge isn't stirred,” he added.
According to him, the preparatory process of the unification council is under way and there are “positive dynamics with a sober vision on the part of key figures and with their objective desire to achieve a successful completion as soon as possible – the Tomos of autocephaly.”
