Summit in the Caucasus to Be Named after Pope John Paul II

Lviv mountain climbers from the club Extreme, as part of the program “Heroes of Ukraine on Top of the World,” came up with the idea to next year climb to the top of an unnamed summit in Georgia and call it the John Paul II Spire. The climbing will coincide with the canonization of John Paul II, which is planned for 2014

The idea was supported by climbers from Wroclaw, Krakow, and Warsaw.

The mountain climbers want to the action have a sporting dimension in addition to the political one, so they are looking for a mountain that will be difficult to climb, Lvivskyi Portal reports.

All the formal issues are currently being settled with the Georgian authorities.
