Sybiha: 'Instead of a Christmas ceasefire, Russia chose to launch another massive attack against Ukraine'
This was stated by Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on social media X, as reported by Ukrinform.
The head of Ukrainian diplomacy stated that, rather than implementing a Christmas ceasefire or taking meaningful steps towards peace, Russia launched another massive attack on Ukraine this morning. This assault involved hundreds of drones and missiles.
As a result of the strikes, an elderly woman was killed in the Kyiv region, a four-year-old child lost their life in the Zhytomyr region, and another individual died in the Khmelnytsky region. Many more people were injured across at least nine regions. The primary targets of the attack were energy facilities and critical civilian infrastructure.
"Moscow does not hide its genocidal intent, preparing strikes at energy infrastructure deliberately when the temperature drops. As the world prepares for Christmas holidays, Ukraine is defending itself, its freedom, and its people, as well as peace and stability across the transatlantic, from Russian barbarism and aggression. Russia must be forced into peace through collective transatlantic strength. This can be achieved through increasing the cost of continuing this war for the aggressor," Sybiha stressed.
Russia launched 38 missiles and 635 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of various types at Ukraine during the night and morning, impacting at least 13 regions.
The day before this attack, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the key issue discussed during the General Staff meeting was enhancing protection against potential large-scale Russian strikes during the Christmas holidays.
