The head of Vatican diplomacy warns against territorial compromises at the expense of Ukraine
The head of Vatican diplomacy stated this during a colloquium on migration in the Papal Gregorian, CMC reports.
Archbishop Gallagher visited Ukraine on March 18-21 this year. In his speech at the university, he urged people to remember the tragedy of Ukraine and the suffering of its people caused by Russia's attack.
"When in Ukraine, I felt certain expectations of the Holy See to maintain contacts and solidarity with Ukraine. Although some countries are very generous, there is a danger of fatigue setting in. Thus, we can not hope for the problem to solve itself," he said.
"As a Church, we must make efforts to establish peace and emphasize the ecumenical dimension. Moreover, we must resist the temptation to agree to compromises on Ukraine's territorial integrity. On the contrary, we must use this principle of territorial integrity as the basis of peace. We hope we will soon be able to start negotiations for a peaceful future," Gallagher said.
