The Mission of the President of Ukraine in the ARC responded to the searches and detentions of Crimean Tatars in the Dzhankoy and Kirov districts of the annexed Crimea on February 5, 2025.

This was reported by Krym.Realii.

As of now, the Russian authorities are holding 218 people in detention, including 132 representatives of the Crimean Tatar people, on charges of crimes such as terrorism, extremism and treason.

“Some of the detainees are members of the families of political prisoners, which demonstrates how the Russian occupation administration represses entire families,” the statement reads.

The Mission emphasized that only the de-occupation of the peninsula can guarantee the protection of its residents from repression related to political, religious or ethnic motives.

“We appeal to the entire international community to respond to the latest manifestations of human rights violations in the temporarily occupied Crimea and call for joint efforts to stop Russia's persecution of Ukrainian citizens for political reasons as soon as possible,” the Mission said.

On the morning of February 5, it became known that Russian security forces in Crimea detained five Crimean Tatars. Around 4 am, in the Dzhankoy and Kirov districts of Crimea, FSB officers came to the houses of Emir Kurtnezirov, Abibula Smetlyaev, Rustem Mustafayev, Mirzaali Tajibayev and Bakhtiyar Ablaev with searches.

The FSB officers took them all to Simferopol for investigation. Later, the Kyiv District Court of Simferopol, created by Russia, imposed a pre-trial restraint on three of the detainees in the form of detention until April 4, 2025.
