An official investigation has been ordered into the collection of information about members of the Jewish community in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. It was entrusted to employees of the Department of Internal Security and the Main Investigative Department of the National Police of Ukraine. This was stated by the head of the National Police. Ihor Klymenko on May 11, "Religion in Ukraine" reports.

Information about the collection of data on the activities of the Jewish Religious Community of the Orthodox Jewish faith in the city of Kolomyia and its representatives appeared on the Internet on May 10. The head of one of the police departments in Ivano-Frankivsk region sent to the community leader a corresponding letter.

"As soon as this information appeared on the web, I immediately appointed an official investigation into this fact, because any manifestations of xenophobia and antisemitism are unacceptable. I'm sorry that this situation happened at all. That is why an internal investigation will be conducted as soon as possible, the main purpose of which is to find out the reasons and the need to send a letter about collecting data from representatives of the Jewish community," Igor Klymenko said.

According to the Chairman of the National Police of Ukraine, the task of law enforcement officers is to ensure the safety and protection of citizens, including from extremist attacks: "I want to assure the representatives of the community: we will not allow any manifestations of persecution of citizens on national or other grounds. All police departments work to prevent antisemitic hate crimes, and if they are committed, they immediately respond and direct efforts to solve and investigate them."
