The General Assembly of the German Bishops’ Conference (GBC), which is being held in Fulda these days, elected on September 21 the new heads and members of the 14th GBC Commissions.

This is reported by the UGCC Information Department.

The Apostolic Exarch for Ukrainians of the Byzantine Rite, His Eminence Bohdan Dzyurakh, was elected to three commissions: the Commission on Migrants, the Commission on Family and Family Affairs, and the Commission of the Church in the World.

Episcopal commissions perform a triple task within the framework of the German Bishops’ Conference:

  • monitor developments in their areas of competence and prepare draft statements for the plenary meeting of the entire episcopate;
  • implement the decisions of the General Assembly and the Permanent Council of the German Bishops’ Conference;
  • perform current tasks.

"In my welcoming speech to the German bishops, I stated my openness to cooperation at various levels and that I will not perceive this cooperation as a one-way street. Therefore, my consent to participate in the work of these commissions was a logical consequence of this statement, especially since the chairman of this commission, Archbishop Heiner Koch of Berlin, invited me to join the Commission on Family and Family Affairs in advance. In addition, I hope that through membership in these commissions, I will be able to better serve our church in the countries of the Exarchate and in the mother lands," Bishop Bogdan said in a comment to the press service of the Apostolic Exarchate in Germany.
