On March 13, the Catholic Church marked the 10th anniversary of the election of Pope Francis as Ecumenical Bishop. The Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), His Beatitude Sviatoslav, sent a letter to the Pope to extend his congratulations and express his gratitude for the Holy See's continued support of Ukraine. He also renewed his appeal for "joint efforts towards achieving a just peace for the Ukrainian people."

The head of the UGCC emphasized that this anniversary cannot be fully understood through human criteria alone "without looking through the prism of faith, which teaches us to trust God in every period of human history."

"Our faithful today join the world in praying for you and your service to our people. During this time of 'epochal change,' we are all going through the difficult time of 'war in parts,' which you have often referred to and which is now unfolding in the very heart of Europe due to the brazen Russian aggression against long-suffering Ukraine," wrote His Beatitude Sviatoslav in his letter.

The head of the UGCC expressed his gratitude for various initiatives taken in support of Ukraine even before the full-scale invasion. "I would like to especially thank you for your letter to the Ukrainian people, in which we felt the compassion of a father who understands our pain regardless of our religious or confessional affiliation," the Primate added.

"Mourning our victims, we strive daily, together with you, to work towards building a just peace in Ukraine. We pray that through your ministry, Christianity in the modern world will be a beacon of Christ's truth and love," the head of the UGCC wished.
