UGCC Patriarch makes public two missions for future President of Ukraine
The future president of Ukraine, whoever is elected to this office, must fulfill two main missions – to defend the country from Russian aggression and to keep the course for Europe.
The head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Patriarch Svyatoslav (Shevchuk) said this, commenting on the presidential campaign unfolding in the country.
“One needs to rely on what functions and tasks the president must fulfill. This person, firstly, must be capable of serving as the commander-in-chief of a country that actually lives in a state of war,” said the first hierarch.
Also, in his words, the role of the president includes the foreign policy area of state development.
“We, as a people, declared our European strategic direction as a component of development, we said that we want to be members of the European community, build democracy on the European model, and we must consider whether one or another person will realize European aspirations of Ukrainians,” the head of the UGCC said.
Patriarch Sviatoslav (Shevchuk) said that during the election period he prays for the wisdom of the Ukrainian people, “We pray that wisdom manifests itself in every voter and citizen of Ukraine in such a responsible period for us.”
