Ukraine plans to mark the 125th anniversary of Patriarch Josyp Slipyj

As part of the year of Patriarch Josyp Slipyj in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Kyiv and other cities of Ukraine will mark the 125th birthday anniversary Patriarch Josyp Slipyj, according to the Information Department of the UGCC.

In particular, on February 15, 2017 at 11.00 am, the Institute of History of the Church, and theUCU Kyiv center are to hold a press conference in Kyiv with participation of Archbishop Emeritus Patriarch Lubomyr (Husar), Bishop Hlib (Lonchyna), historian Oleh Turiy, the former employee of Patriarch Josyp, Iryna Yasinska-Graves and Head of the UGCC Information Department Fr Ihor Yatsiv.

On the same day at 17.00, Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University will host the solemn academy, which will be opened by Patriarch Sviatoslav of the UGCC.

The exposition of a banner exhibition about the life and work of Patriarch Josyp Slipyy will operate in the main building of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University (60 Volodymyrdska str.).

On February 16, 2017 at 9:30 am,the UCU Kyiv center will hold the round table themed “Patriarch IosypSlipyy, known and unknown” (10 AMazepa str.).

On February 17, 2017,the jubilee celebrations are set to begin at 11:00, in the Museum and memorial complex “Native Home” of Patriarch IosypSlipyyin the village of Zazdrist, Terebovlya district, Ternopil region, Patriarch Iosyp’s place of birth.

On February 19, 2017 at 11:00 am,the patriarch will lead a Pontifical Divine Liturgy and requiem in the Patriarchal Cathedral of Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv with the participation of the UGCC hierarchy.

The visiting sessions are also scheduled: March 6-10 in Kharkiv– Poltava –Zaporizhia, March 13-16 in Odessa – Chernivtsi –Uzhhorod, March 27-31 in Chernihiv – Zhytomyr –Ostroh. Among the speakers and participants are, in particular, Bishop Boris (Gudziak), dissident MyroslavMarynovych, BishopGleb (Lonchyna), historian Oleh Turiy.

InMay-June and September-October, 2017, the guest lectures and exhibition shows are scheduled in the cities of Berdyansk, Dnipro, Mariupol, Mykolayiv, Kherson, Sovyansk, Siverskodonetsk, KryvyyRih, Cherkasy, Sumy, Rivne, Lutsk, Vinnytsia, Khmelnitsky, Kamyanets-Podilskyy and other cities of Ukraine.

In Lviv, on April 7-8, 2017, the students’ academic conference of the UGCC seminaries will be held, which is themed“Patriarch Joseph Blind and development of Ukrainian theological education and science in the XX - early XXI centuries.”

On July 8-16, 2017 in Rome, the Institute of Church History and Institute of St. Clement, Pope UCU together with the religious association“St. Sophia” in Rome will organize the Summer School for young scholars called “Patriarch IosypSlipyy as a figure in the context of international religious and political relations.”
