Ukrainian Association of Religious Freedom Initiates Discussion of Interethnic and Interconfessional Relations
CHERNIVTSI – With the assistance of the Ukrainian Association of Religious Freedom (UARF), the Philosophical and Theological Department of Y. Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University on April 29-30, 2010, held an international scholarly practical conference "Interethnic and Interconfessional Relations in the Context of Modern Social Transformations" and a round table "Urgent Problems of Church-State Relations in Bukovyna."
As RISU was informed by a participant of the conference, Dmytro Bazyk, the subjects of the reports concerned urgent questions of the place of confessional development of Ukraine in the context of the global processes, specificities of the development of church-state relations in modern Ukraine, problems of the ethnic-religious factor in the formation of the political nation in Ukraine, factors of the interconfessional conflicts and ways to overcome them, specificities of religious life of Bukovyna in the context of social transformations, and so forth.
During the conference, a presentation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) was held, in which the urgency of popularizing the establishment of family values in the modern society was stressed. The representatives of the church formulated a call to all conscientious citizens and responsible governmental officials of the world to assist in the measures aimed at preserving and strengthening the family as a fundamental integrating social unit.
