Ukrainian Greek Catholic head meets with leaders of World Congress of Ukrainians
On August 24, Independence Day, the гead of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), Patriarch Sviatoslav, received official representatives of the World Congress of Ukrainians. The residence of the patriarch was visited by the president of the congress, Yevhen Cholii, general secretary of the congress, Stefan Romaniv, and the ex-President of the congress, Askold Lozinskyi.
According to the Information Department of the UGCC, the visitors greeted the head of the UGCC on his appointment to the post and assured him of their support for all the initiatives aimed to the good of the Ukrainian nation. In addition, they asked that an official representative of the UGCC be appointed as a member of the congress. They also stressed the importance of the efficient activity of the Council of Churches in the congress and the need to renew its work.
In his turn, Patriarch Sviatoslav stressed the importance of the Ukrainian international community not only in the work of the development and preservation of the Ukrainian culture but, primarily, in the work of the development of Ukraine’s independence. In addition, he stressed the important role of the Ukrainian international community in the work of developing the Ukrainian world “according to the modern realia of life of Ukrainians.”
The head of the UGCC also told the leaders of the World Congress of Ukrainians about the final stages of the construction of the Patriarchal Center of UGCC in Kyiv and invited them to contribute to the construction of the monument to Panteleimon Kulish, Ivan Puliuy and Ivan Nechui-Levytskyi, who translated the Bible into Ukrainian. The monument will be erected at the patriarchal center.
“It is an important way to attract representatives of the Ukrainian international community to the territory of our center. For the Holy Scripture and its translation into Ukrainian was an important element of the development of the Ukrainian identity,” noted the head of the UGCC.
