Ukrainian Parliament called for actions against Russian presence in the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy

Yaroslav Zhelezniak, MP from the "Holos" party, announced this on Telegram, as reported by Ukrinform.

Resolution No. 9262 was supported by 254 members of Parliament.

In the appeal, Ukrainian parliamentarians state that there can be no justification for the presence of a delegation from the Russian Federation at the 30th General Assembly of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy. They also emphasize the inadmissibility of having Sergei Gavrilov, a representative of Russia, hold the position of President of the Assembly. In light of this, the Members of Parliament declare their inability to participate in the General Assembly of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy.

The Verkhovna Rada urges the parliaments of the member states of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy to strongly condemn Russian armed aggression against Ukraine and immediately exclude Russia from the Assembly. It also calls for the premature termination of the mandate of the current President of the Assembly and representatives of the state sponsoring terrorism in the governing bodies of the Assembly.

The Ukrainian Parliament requests the initiation of efforts to amend the Regulations of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy in order to bring them in line with the current realities of the development of the global Orthodox community, including a review of the structure of governing bodies and the rights of the President of the Assembly.

Furthermore, the Verkhovna Rada calls for the imposition of strict sanctions against participants of the General Assembly who contradict the spirit of the Assembly's Founding Act and prevent the participation of representatives from the progressive part of the Orthodox world.

It should be noted that the session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy is scheduled to take place in Halkidiki, Greece, from June 29 to July 3.
