Ukrainian Prosecution to make examination of Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan) remains
The General Prosecutor's Office wants to carry out forensic examination of biological material of the deceased leader of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Metropolitan Volodymyr. It was stated in the court ruling, Lb.ua reports.
In the course of investigation, the GPO served a petition to the court to grant temporary access to the materials held by Kyiv hospital “Oberih”. This is the archive of tissues that were removed during a surgery that the metropolitan underwent on August 7, 2013.
Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko said that metropolitan Volodymyr was “almost driven to early death.”
As reported, the GPU is investigating into the possible involvement of senior officials (Yanukovych, Zakharchenko, Koriak and Novinsky) in seizure of power in the UOC, trying to dismiss the late Primate Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan) and advance Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanych) to the ecclesial office. The last is often called Vadym Novinskiy’s puppet.
Thus, to proceed with an investigation at the parliamentary request, Yurii Lutsenko lifted parliamentary immunity for Novinsky. Within the framework of this case, Pechersky Court in Kyiv gave permission to arrest former president Viktor Yanukovych and former Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko.
As recently reported, the prosecutor general said that the case on Novinsky should be handed over to the court. Lutsenko hopes that the trial will take several months. According to Interfax, the court allegedly gave permission to the GPO to access to information on MP’s mobile phones.
