Ukrainian Soldiers Tortured to Death by Bolsheviks Remembered in Volyn Oblast
In the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate, in Lutsk, a memorial service was conducted for the repose of the soldiers of the Volyn group of the Army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic who were killed by the Bolsheviks. The service was led by the head of the Information and Publishing Center of the Lutsk Eparchy, Protopriest Vitalii (Sobko).
The Volyn Eparchy of UOC-KP reminded that on November 17, 1921, near the village of Bazar in Zhytomyr Oblast, during the 2nd Winter Raid, the group led by General Yurii Titiunnyk was defeated by the Crimean Cavalry Division of Kotovskyi. Over 400 fighters perished, and 537 people were captured. Tens of wounded soldiers died, 41 officers were left for interrogations, 359 soldiers were executed. None of them agreed to change sides.
