UOC-KP and UOC-MP are very close to unification, Yuri Chornomorets
Today the Ukrainian Orthodox Churches of the Kyiv and Moscow Patriarchates are close to unification. Ph.D. of religious science Yuriy Chornomorets expressed this opinion on air of BTB TV-channel.
“I believe that today the Ukrainian Orthodox Churches of Kyiv and Moscow Patriarchates are close to unity as never before, because each of them has brought up a new generation of bishops who did not participate in conflicts of the 90s, and are not burdened by old wounds and mutual grievances”, said the expert.
He believes that they could reach a compromise and create a unified ecclesiastical structure in Ukraine.
“It is important that this year in March the representatives of the Kyiv and Moscow Patriarchates agreed to develop a roadmap to merge on the basis of the church canons, rather than political considerations. This is a great victory,” said Chornomorets.
He predicted that immediately after the election of the new Primate of the UOC-MP the new negotiations on the issue are likely to take place and be a success. “Everyone understands that the events currently taking place in Ukraine has shown that the country urgently needs a unified voice of the Orthodox Church”, concluded the expert.
