UOC (MP) sets a committee to defend canonical Orthodoxy
"The Committee for Defense of Canonical Orthodoxy" was established in Tulchyn Diocese of the UOC (MP). The decision was adopted at a meeting of the Diocesan Council, which was held on June 29 under the chairmanship of Metropolitan Ionafan (Eletskikh) of Tulchyn and Bratslav, vinbazar reports citing the press service of the diocese.
"The Diocesan Council, with regard to the negative situation that emerged around the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and legal vulnerability of the communities and faithful of the Diocese of Tulchin, unanimously decided to organize within the diocese the Committee for Defense of Canonical Orthodoxy,”reads the statement.
It is planned to involve Orthodox human rights defenders, lawyers and journalists in the Committee’s work. The retired clergymen of the Diocese of Tulchyn, Hierodeacon Ioan (Kurmoyarov) was appointed to the office of Secretary of the Committee for Defense of Canonical Orthodoxy"
Earlier, Metropolitan Ionafan (Eletskikh) of Tulchyn and Bratslav expressed his satisfaction with the fact that the Russian Orthodox Church refused to participate in the Pan-Orthodox Council, as it fully met the expectations of the clergy of the Diocese of Tulchyn and urged to re-locate the Council to Russia.
