The administration of US President Donald Trump has admitted that he will not be able to secure an Easter ceasefire in Ukraine.

According to Hromadske, this was reported by the Telegraph citing sources in the White House.

Sources said that American officials were increasingly frustrated with the Kremlin's stalling tactics. Moreover, the Trump administration is ready to pressure Moscow and Kyiv into agreeing a settlement.

At the start of his presidency, Mr. Trump stated that he would achieve a full ceasefire by April or May, with a lasting peace to follow. However, senior administration officials have admitted that such an agreement will not be achieved in the coming months.

The Telegraph notes that the US president's frustration became apparent on Sunday, March 30, when he “lashed out” at Putin for questioning the legitimacy of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. At the same time, the American leader threatened Russia with new oil sanctions.

According to the sources, consultations were held between the White House and the State Department on April 29-30, during which American officials acknowledged the Kremlin is deliberately sabotaging any agreement to prevent the United States from reaching a long-term deal with Ukraine.

“There is a deep frustration with the Russian government over negotiations,” a US National Security Council spokesman said on Monday.
