Pope Leo XIV received Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for an audience at Castel Gandolfo. After their meeting, the Ukrainian leader expressed his hope for assistance from the Holy Father and the Holy See in organizing a high-level meeting aimed at bringing an end to the war.

This was reported by Vatican News.

At the beginning of the day, Volodymyr Zelensky arrived at Louis XIV's summer residence in Castel Gandolfo.

During the meeting, Pope Leo XIII and the President of Ukraine briefly stepped out onto the balcony of the papal residence to greet those assembled.

After the meeting, Volodymyr Zelensky addressed journalists, saying, “First of all, I am very grateful to His Holiness for this meeting, for welcoming us, and, of course, for his assistance.”

He expressed particular gratitude for the prayers and efforts to help return Ukrainian children who had been kidnapped by the Russians during the war, so they could be reunited with their families in Ukraine.

“This is a very important issue; we discussed it,” the Ukrainian president stated.

“We want peace; we want this war to end, and we are counting on the Vatican and His Holiness to help us facilitate a high-level meeting that will allow us to end this war,” Volodymyr Zelensky added.

As reported, the President of Ukraine arrived in Italy for a conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine after the damage caused by the war, which is set to begin in Rome.
