The president thanked Pope Leo XIV for his role in establishing a Christmas ceasefire during Russia's war with Ukraine.

Zelensky wrote about this on Telegram, as reported by Ukrinform.

“We appreciate Pope Leo XIV's ongoing commitment to all diplomatic efforts aimed at ending Russia's war against Ukraine. We share His Holiness' disappointment at Russia's refusal to accept the recent proposal for a Christmas truce,” Zelensky stated.

The President highlighted that the Ukrainian people are facing their fourth Christmas amid a full-scale war, the largest conflict in Europe since World War II.

He noted that not only did Russia reject the proposal to halt violence on this sacred day, but it also launched a significant missile and drone strike on the Ukrainian power grid, resulting in widespread power outages, and continues to attack along the front lines.

“It is crucial for people around the world to speak out. We must not allow Russia to normalize cruelty, terror, and aggression against our nation. I urge all responsible leaders to support peace, as the pontiff does. We are grateful for every expression of solidarity,” the President emphasized.
