MP Synod Sums Up Kyivan Monastery Celebration

29 August 2001 the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) held a session of its Holy Synod, lead by the Church’s head, Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan) of Kyiv and All Ukraine. The celebration of the 950th anniversary of Kyiv’s Monastery of the Caves (held on August 27 and 28) was summed up and other church issues were discussed.

A summary report on the celebration of the 950th anniversary of the Kyivan Monastery of the Caves was given during the session of the Holy Synod. Participants in the synod sent thanks to the heads of the various national Orthodox Churches whose delegations took part in the celebration of the jubilee of the main monastic institution of Ukraine. They also thanked Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma for his support of the celebration and his participation. The Holy Synod considered other issues, among which were the establishment of two new monasteries in the Sumy and Transcarpathian regions, internal affairs regarding church life and the announcement of saints of the Zaporizhzhia eparchy of the UOC-MP.
