Deputy Yavorivskyi Calls Attempts of the Moscow Patriarchate to Displace Cultural Institutions from the Cave Monastery “Adventurism”
“The advance on Ukraine, on Ukrainian history and spirituality, is happening even at the peak of vacation time. After the visit to Ukraine of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Russia, the Moscow Patriarchate, with the support of the Party of Regions, decided to take full possession of the Kyiv Cave Monastery,” says the national deputy from the Tymoshenko’s bloc Volodymyr Yavorivskyi, reports the press service of the deputy.
Yavorivskyi states that he saw a report of Prime Minister Azarov, signed by the archbishop of Vyshhorod, deputy abbot of the Holy Dormition of the Kyiv Cave Monastery, where the Moscow Patriarchate proposes to take possession of many buildings on the territory of the Kyiv Cave Monastery which belong to cultural institutions.
The deputy says that as the head of the Committee of the Supreme Council on Culture and Spirituality, he supported the action to move some organizations that are not engaged in cultural activities, but says that fact that they are trying to displace several cultural museums is compete nonsense.
Yavorivskyi believes these organizations will be thrown on the street. “The other scenario will be like what Chernovetskyj did with the History Museum in Kyiv: the expositions were packed away in trunks and the workers roam from one space to another.”
“We cannot allow such adventurism. Judging from everything, spaces in the Kyiv Cave Monastery will be freed not only for the expansion, but for the complete seizure of the monastery by the Moscow Patriarchate,” stressed the deputy.
