Bishop Vasyl Ivasiuk, exarch of Odesa and Crimea of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), addressed the Mayor of Odesa Oleksii Kostusiev with a request to assist in allocating a land plot for the construction of a church as soon as possible.

According to the letter, published by the Information Department of the UGCC, over a thousand believers participated in the Easter celebration in St. Andrew’s Church on Gimnazychna Street. “Everyone asks me one and the same question: When will our problem of land for the construction of the church be solved? I always say that it depends on the city mayor and the deputies elected by us,” writes the bishop.

“I can see pain in the hearts of the people as we do not have land for the construction of the church and the small chapel of fifty square meters cannot house all the believers,” reads the address.

“I would like to remind that all authority is from God and not from people. During the election, you took aquired the personal responsibility for each resident of Odesa and each person living in Odesa. It has been nearly twenty years since the authorities of Odesa first failed to hear the community of the UGCC. Can we expect that this time we will be heard in the City Council?” asks the exarch.
