OCU Synod considers draft law on civil partnerships unacceptable
This decision was made by the Synod of the OCU, reports Ukrinform.
"The Holy Synod adopted a statement in which it emphasized the inadmissibility of draft law No. 9103 on the institution of "registered partnership" as contrary to the natural law established by God, violating the norms of the Constitution of Ukraine regarding the definition of marriage as a union of one man and one woman, poses a threat to public morality, in particular to the moral and psychological health of children and their right to be brought up in a family created on the basis of marriage between a man and a woman, and will worsen the demographic situation in Ukraine," the statement said.
In addition, the Synod instructed His Beatitude Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All-Ukraine to send relevant letters to the Verkhovna Rada, the President, and the Cabinet of Ministers.
As reported, Bill No. 9103 was registered in the parliament on March 14. They are invited to introduce a registered partnership (also called "civil") as a voluntary family union of two adults of the same or different sexes. It will not be considered a marriage, and people living in the same family are not a registered partnership if the relevant union is not registered.
