The head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav, presented the church's position on the draft law on civil partnerships in a monthly program on live television.

This was reported by the Information Department of the UGCC.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav noted that when it comes to draft laws or legislative acts that contradict natural law, this phenomenon threatens the foundations of Ukrainian legislation.

"When we talk about this type of civil partnership, we have a classic case of contradiction of the draft law to the natural law. Therefore, in fact, speaking in the language of jurisprudence, we are talking more about a bill of lawlessness than a law," the head of the UGCC said.

The Primate of the UGCC also noted that such legislative initiatives are a certain challenge to public morality because this type of initiative should pass a public discussion.

"It is impossible to deprive a society that has the right to speak out on such an important topic of its voice. Indeed, if this type of mutation of state legislation occurs under the guise of War circumstances," the Patriarch said," then the level of democratic values of freedom in our state can be doubted."

As for the position of the church, according to primate Svyatoslav, the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations has already sent a corresponding letter to the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and the heads of factions, where they expressed their thoughts on this topic. It is somewhat outrageous that the title of the bill refers to civil partnerships, but the text refers to a type of partnership that is equated with the family, and it should have all the same rights as the family.

"We know that family is an exclusive, fruitful, faithful bond of love between a man and a woman. To call other civil partnerships a family or grant them the same rights a family has is to despise the family as the primary cell of society, including the Ukrainian one," His Beatitude Sviatoslav stressed.

Therefore, based on such things, His Beatitude Sviatoslav expressed the hope that lawmakers will treat this issue with proper responsibility and respect for the family, and then listen to the opinion of Ukrainian society.
