"We are being deprived of Lavra," - Kirill complains to world religious leaders about the Ukrainian government
This is reported by Orthodox Life.
Kirill believes that the warning about the termination of the contract for the use of churches and houses of the monastery, received by the Lavra, and the demand to leave the territory of the monastery by March 29, "attracts attention by the lack of sufficient legal justification in it."
The head of the Russian Church also saw an "opaque nature" in the work of the commission to search for violations in the economic activities of the monastery.
The Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church called on religious leaders and representatives of international organizations "to make every effort to prevent the forced closure of the monastery, which will lead to a violation of the rights of millions of Ukrainian believers to freedom of religion guaranteed by the Constitution of Ukraine, as well as by such documents as the UN Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Intolerance and Discrimination Based on Religion or Belief, and many other acts of international importance."
Kirill sent his complaint to the Primates of the Local Orthodox Churches, Pope Francis, Patriarch Tawadros II of the Coptic Church, the Head of the Anglican Communion, Archbishop Justin Welby of Canterbury, and the Secretary General of the World Council of Churches, Dr. Jerry Pillay, as well as the Secretary General of the United Nations, the Secretary General of the OSCE, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.
As reported earlier, the acting director general of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra National Reserve, Oleksandr Rudnyk, informed the monks of the UOC-MP that they had to vacate the buildings and facilities of the monastery by March 29.
