Another Wooden Church in Danger in Lviv Region
LVIV – During the night of March 22, 2010, an unidentified person committed an act of vandalism in the Holy Trinity Church in Sykhiv, Lviv, reports the press service of the Lviv City Hall.
“According to witnesses, an unknown man at night committed sacrilege on church attributes and set a trash bin with paper booklets on fire. We are concerned lest the wooden church should be set on fire some night. It is not the first time: last Friday an unknown man broke vases near the crosses and behaved aggressively,” said a member of the church committee, Halyna Polyichuk.
The police are investigating the matter.
The wooden Holy Trinity Church was built in a Lviv suburb in 1654 when the army of the Cossack Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytskyi was approaching the city. Some historians believe the church was built with the assistance of the hetman.
