'Every war is a sin before God and humanity': Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine - фото 1
The Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine, Visvaldas Kulbokas, declared that all wars are moral crimes, and Russia's aggression against Ukraine is an unjustifiable sin.

He stated this on the National Day of Prayer for Ukraine in a comment to Ukrinform.

According to him, the stance of the Christian Churches and the Holy See is clear: "The killing of one person is the killing of humanity." He emphasized that "every war is a sin before God and humanity," and there is "no doubt about it."

However, the nuncio acknowledged that finding a way to stop the war and protect the victims of aggression is more complex. He believes that not only prayer is needed but also active efforts at all levels — informational, humanitarian, diplomatic, and political.

"Prayer alone is not enough; we must work on all fronts," Archbishop Kulbokas stressed. He added that prayer can change hearts, stating, "The Lord can change people's minds, and there is even prayer for enemies. The Lord can alter paths, help convert individuals, and convert Russia."

The representative of the Holy See noted that after four years of full-scale war and a fifth challenging winter, the world and the international community have not done enough to bring it to an end. He believes this highlights the need for greater unity and determination.

On the Day of Prayer for Justice and Peace in Ukraine, he expressed a desire to see "even greater unity among Ukrainians, as well as among all partners" — unity in both joint action and prayer. The nuncio called for a collective prayer effort by representatives of different churches and religions alongside state leaders. "What path are we to take when even international law does not work? We turn to God," said Archbishop Kulbokas.

The nuncio also reached out to Russian citizens who might hear his words. He urged people of goodwill not to cease their prayers and to seek ways to influence the situation within their country, even under dictatorial rule.
