PACE Concerned About Situation Regarding Construction of Jewish Center in Kyiv
36 members of PACE expressed their concern about the obstructions for the construction of the Jewish public center in Kyiv.
According to the web site of PACE, a special declaration was signed by 36 parliament members from 17 European countries on 27 June, at the last summer session.
A member of PACE, a deputy of the Moldovan Parliament, Valerii Giletskiy stated to UNIAN that the declaration was made in view of the actions of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Kyiv and the Kyiv City State Administration disabling the settlement of the situation regarding the construction of the Jewish public center.
“We could see that they try to prevent the construction using formal excuses, which provoked the concern of the European parliament members. The Parliamentary Assembly watches very attentively the developments in Ukraine as the actual steps in this regard are of much greater importance to the European community than the Euro-integration course declared by the state,” said Giletskiy.
According to him, the declaration is primarily to attract the attention of the Ukrainian authorities to the problem of the construction of the Jewish Center as “the lack of assistance in settling the problem with the mutual consent of the sides only spoils the image of the state.”
“Therefore, it is a friendly signal to Ukraine about the problem noticed by the international community,” noted the official.
