"Right sector" offered Rabbi of Odessa protection of the synagogue and monument of Holocaust

Odessa_PS_1-a.jpgChief Rabbi of Odessa and Southern Ukraine Abraham Wolf condemned acts of vandalism at a Jewish cemetery in Odessa and expressed the hope that the police will arrest perpetrators and punish them, reports Odessa deiley.

"At night of 8 April on the walls of houses in Odessa , on the monuments of Jews killed in the Holocaust  and the Jewish cemetery tombstones anti-Semitic graffiti , swastika and signs traditionally associated with the organization" Right sector” were painted" - says Abraham Wolf.

Acts of vandalism, according to Rabbi aimed "not only for the aggravation of interethnic relations, but to create a negative image of what is happening in the country ."

"We have already seen the usage of anti-Semitic manifestations during complex political processes. Whoever it was this time, they achieved the opposite goals. Representatives of all political movements address Jewish and express their support. We thank them for their support and brotherly feelings for our community".

Chief Rabbi of Odessa and Southern Ukraine hopes that the police will find and punish the perpetrators.

“Right sector” (“Pravy Sector” – Ukrainian ultra-right political party formed during Maidan movement) sentenced these offensive signs on cemetery and monuments.  Representative of the party immediately arrived from Kyiv to Odessa to meet Rabbi and Jewish community. He said the Rabbi that their organization has nothing to do with this act of vandalism and condemn it. The representative of "Right sector" also stressed that for their party it will now be a matter of honor to find and punish the perpetrators. In addition, he offered assistance of members of organization in the protection of Jewish sites of the city.

Abraham Wolf and Right sector representative were working together on April 10 painting over offensive graffiti on the fence of the Jewish cemetery.
