Religious scholar explains proclamation of OCU Primate's name in Romanian Diptych
This comment was made by religious scholar Oleksandr Brodetsky on Facebook regarding the commemoration of the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) during the Liturgy in Bucharest.
Brodetsky stated, “Consider this: if Patriarch Bartholomew had commemorated, for instance, the Pope or any Eastern Catholic Patriarch during the Liturgy, Romanian Patriarch Daniel would have immediately withdrawn from the joint service.”
“He did not do so while commemorating Metropolitan Epifaniy, which indicates that Patriarch Daniel acknowledges that he and the OCU are, from a Christian perspective, just as Orthodox. Yet, political reasons still appear to have an influence. But as the saying goes, water wears away stone.”
As reported by RISU, during a joint Divine Liturgy on October 27 in Bucharest, led by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Romanian Patriarch Daniel, the name of the Primate of the OCU was proclaimed in the diptych alongside the names of other Primates of autocephalous Local Churches.
