Reps of Churches Participate in Discussion of New Draft Law 'On Protection of Social Morality'
A session of the interfactional group of deputies "For the Spirituality, Morality, and Health of Ukraine" and the National Expert Committee on Matters of Protection of Social Morality was held in the Supreme Council of Ukraine. The meeting was also attended by representatives of churches and religious and public organizations.
According to the website of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate, the main task of the meeting was to discuss Bill 7132 "On Making Alterations to the Law of Ukraine 'On Protection of Social Morality'" and development of a draft State Program of Information and Educational Activity for propagating spiritual, moral and ethical values, and a healthy way of life in Ukraine.
Ten deputies from all the factions of the Supreme Council drafted the law on protecting social morality. They were provoked by what they see as the obvious moral and spiritual degradation of the society which results in the weakening of ethical and moral norms and increasing neglect of ancient spiritual and human values and tremendous spread of such negative phenomena as smoking, alcohol and drug addictions, AIDS, child pornography, prostitution, various manifestations of violence, etc.
The participants of the meeting decided to address the Supreme Council with a request to speed up the consideration by the committees and pass the law on protection of social morality.
